PRIDE
Pride Campaign by Slava Mogutin
For me photography is not a job or hobby, it's a way of life and an integral part of my political activism. At a time when the LGBT+ community is under attack around the world, from the East to the West, I believe that honest and personal documentation of queer lives, sensuality and sexuality is just as important as it was 50 years ago, in the early days of Queer Liberation movement. For me every shoot is an opportunity to celebrate my people and our diversity. Working on my Pride Campaign for untitlab®, I assembled an international cast of incredible talents, letting them all shine bright. Diversity is our power, we still have so much to fight for, and we each have our unique story to tell.
About Slava Mogutin
Born in Siberia, Slava Mogutin is a Russian-American multimedia artist, author and activist exiled from Russia for his outspoken queer writing and activism. A third- generation writer and self-taught photographer, he became the first Russian to be granted political asylum in the US on the grounds of homophobic persecution. Informed by his bicultural dissident and refugee experience, Mogutin’s work examines the notions of displacement and identity, pride and shame, devotion and disaffection, love and hate.
Mogutin is the author of seven books of writings in Russian, three monographs of photography and two illustrated collections of poetry published in the US, as well as numerous artist editions and zines. He's the winner of Andrei Bely Prize for poetry and the Tom of Finland Foundation Award for artistic achievement. His latest book, Analog Human Studies, was published in March 2023 by London-based MenOnPaperArt. He lives and works between Berlin, New York and Los Angeles.
